ValueScout

Know what a company is worth before you buy it.

ValueScout reads a US-listed company's own SEC filings and shows you what they say: ten years of statements as filed, nine valuation models you can edit, ranks from rules you can read, and Insights, a brief and a research dossier written from the filings themselves, every claim linked to its source.

  • Numbers straight from SEC EDGAR, no analyst estimates
  • Every figure opens to show its working and which filing it came from
  • Prices and candles from a brokerage feed, updated through the day
  • Research only: nothing is ever traded for you

What you get

Type a ticker and read the company properly in ten minutes. Here is what each page does.

Financials: ten years of revenue, operating income, net income, cash flow, cash and debt, and share count as line charts
FREE

Ten years of statements, exactly as filed

Income statement, balance sheet and cash flow: ten fiscal years and twelve quarters side by side, in the company's own currency. Charts on top, the table below, every line linked to the filing it came from.

Per-share history is put on today's share basis after splits, and that is the only adjustment made.

Intrinsic value: nine models as bars against today's price, with the blended median
PRO

Nine ways to value it, every input yours to change

Discounted cash flow, discounted net income, mean price-to-earnings, PEG and five more, each with its inputs shown. Change a growth rate and the value moves. The blended figure is the median of the nine.

Growth defaults are the company's own history, never an analyst's estimate.

Ranks: predictability, profitability, growth, moat, financial strength and valuation, each with the inputs and the rule
PRO

Six ranks, each one a rule you can read

Predictability, profitability, growth, moat, financial strength and valuation. There is no proprietary score: the rule and its inputs are printed next to the verdict, so you can disagree with it.

MAX

Insights: a brief and a dossier, written from the company's own filings

The brief gives you the bull and bear case, the growth drivers, the risks near and far and the competitors, from the numbers on the page. The dossier goes further: what the business is, how it makes its money, whether the accounts are clean or flattered, what protects it from competitors and who keeps the gains, what would show that protection weakening. Three futures weighted to one value, the case against the company in full, and the one thing to verify in the next filing.

Written from the company's own 10-K and 10-Q, its earnings release, its insiders' trades and the funds that hold it, with every claim linked to the document it rests on and labelled as the filing's words, management's claim or the model's reading. Written the first time a reader asks, then shared, and rewritten each time the company files. MAX opens Insights for many companies a month; PRO has a trial of a few companies, the brief in full and the first sections of the dossier. It is research, not advice: no entries, stops or targets.

(Operating cash flow − Capital expenditure) ÷ Revenue
(41,200 − 9,600) ÷ 171,700 = 0.184
Operating cash flow and capital expenditure from the cash-flow statement, revenue from the income statement, all from the same 10-K. Trailing twelve months.
(Long-term debt + Short-term debt) ÷ (Operating income + Depreciation & amortisation)
(38,900 + 6,100) ÷ (29,800 + 7,700) = 1.2
Debt from the balance sheet at the latest quarter; operating income and depreciation summed over the last four quarters.
Free cash flow per share 7.90 · growth 9% for five years, 5% for five more, then 3% · discount rate 9.5%
Change any input and the value is recomputed; the page keeps your inputs. One of nine models; the blended figure is their median.
EVERY PAGE

Every number is a door

Most stock sites give you a figure and ask you to trust it. Here you click the margin and see the two lines from the income statement that made it. If the company reported nothing for a line, the page says so instead of filling it in.

Questions people ask

Where do the numbers come from?

Company figures are read from SEC EDGAR, the regulator's own database of what each company filed, and shown without adjustment beyond putting per-share history on today's share basis after splits. Prices and daily candles come from a brokerage data feed. Every page says when its data was fetched.

Is this investment advice?

No. ValueScout is a research tool: it shows you the company's numbers, the models and the rules, and leaves the decision to you. Nothing on it is a recommendation to buy or sell.

Does any plan trade for me?

No, and none ever will. ValueScout is research: it shows you what a company's filings say and gives no entries, stops or targets. What you do with it is your decision, in your own brokerage account.

How do I pay, and can I cancel?

PRO is paid by card through Stripe, monthly or yearly. You can switch between the two or cancel from your Account page; a cancelled plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. If someone gave you a promotion code, enter it on the checkout page.

What happens when a subscription lapses?

Whether it was PRO or MAX, your account is moved to the FREE plan automatically, on the day the subscription ends or a payment cannot be taken. Your watchlist and everything you did stay; the PRO or MAX pages open again as soon as you upgrade.

How do I sign in?

The first time, your free account opens the moment you sign up. After that, enter your email address and we send a one-time link that works for fifteen minutes. With a Google address you can also use Continue with Google: Google confirms it is you, and you are in at once, no link needed; the first time, it creates your free account.

What do Insights use, and how are they counted?

The brief uses only the page's numbers, the company's last four reports and the latest headlines. The dossier reads the company's own 10-K and 10-Q, its earnings release, its insiders' Form 4 trades and the 13F holdings of the funds we track, and every claim in it cites the document it came from. Both are written the first time a reader asks, then shared by every reader, so a company counts once, the first time you open it, however often you read it after that. On MAX the count is per calendar month and empties on the first of the next; on PRO it is a trial of a few companies in all, with the brief in full and the dossier's first sections. Either can be wrong, and neither replaces the figures beside it.
